  1. An excellent example of the way that regimented ritual, public performance, and primal screaming are not mutually exclusive. It would be very hard to say that this weeping was either a natural outpouring of grief or simply a choreographed performance. It appears to be both.

    The BBC new website coverage sets up the story in terms of an either-or: “So are the people sincerely feeling this loss or are they behaving as they think they should?” But surely sincerely feeling something and behaving as we think we should normally go together.
